We don’t just look at what’s happening, we work to understand why it’s happening.
Our Functional Behaviour Assessments (FBAs) help uncover the reasons behind behaviours that are causing distress at home, school or in the community. This allows us to create support that actually works, not just short-term fixes.
We take time to build a full picture by working closely with the people who know the individual best (i.e. parents, carers/PAs, and staff). Information is gathered through:
-
Conversations and interviews
-
Simple questionnaires
-
Observations during everyday routines
-
Reviewing incident records and patterns
Rather than relying on a single visit, we usually assess across five different days within a month. This helps us understand what’s really influencing behaviour. We look at different times of day, demands, environments and stressors so nothing important is missed.
Functional Behaviour Assessments (FBAs)
We understand how important dignity and safety are, especially when someone is already distressed.
Our assessments use respectful methods and real-life information to understand patterns. We also use advanced tools, such as Practical Functional Assessments and/or Time-Lag Sequential Analysis, to spot links between events and behaviour using everyday data.
Ethical and Least Restrictive Practices
After the assessment, we work together with families and professionals to create a Positive Behaviour Support Plan that makes sense in everyday life.
Each plan is:
-
Individualised and evidence-based
-
Focused on reducing distress and building skills
-
Practical and realistic for daily routines
-
Designed to improve quality of life, not just “manage behaviour”
We don’t expect families or staff to become therapists. Strategies are explained clearly, with step-by-step guidance.
Collaborative Positive Behaviour Support Plans (PBSPs)
Support doesn’t stop once the plan is written. We review the plan every 10 working days after it starts, offering:
-
Regular check-ins
-
Adjustments where things aren’t working
-
Coaching and training for staff or carers
-
Continued problem-solving as life changes
This means the plan stays helpful, relevant, and effective, not something that sits on a shelf.
Over time, we support families to have:
-
Fewer crises and calmer days
-
Better understanding of their loved one’s needs
-
Increased confidence and hope
-
Improved family routines and relationships
-
A feeling of “getting life back on track”
